Description
The year 1994 will be the 600th anniversary of Seoul's foundation as Korea's capital. The government has designated the year 1994 as "Visit Korea Year 1994" and prepared various cultural events for the long-term development of the tourism industry.

So the Ministry of Communications issues 2 kinds of commemorative postage stamps. As the tourism industrys share of nations economy has become more significant in the era of internationalization, more efforts are being made to foster tourism as a nations strategic industry throughout the world.

The "Visit a country Year" program was first introduced in the United States in 1960 and since then a number of countries have carried out the program with great success. The government expects to attract 4.5 million visitors from overseas and 5 billion dollars in revenue from tourism through the "Visit Korea Year 1994" program.

The Ministry of Communications issues 2 kind of postage stamps, one featuring "Visit Korea Year 1994" emblem, and the other, "A folk Janggu drum dance with the emblem" to attract more attention to "Visit Korea Year 1994" throughout the world. The Ministry of Communications also hopes that the issuance will promote the program as a national event.
