| Hoping that the world will acknowledge the importance of the role and responsibility of the family, and promote the international cooperation for family happiness, the United Nations has designated May 15 as the "Interantional Day of the Family" and proclaimed 1994 as the "International Year of the Family".
To join this movement, Korea plans to promote the importance of the family through education, campaigns and TV, and to conduct studies for the solution of family problems concerning senior citizens, children and women's rights. As part of the efforts to strengthen the solidarity among family members, family sports competitions and exhibitions will be held to promote the significance of the family in this special year. The Ministry of Communications is issuing a commemorative postage stamp featuring "A happy family" represented by mandarin ducks. The design, the best award at a postage stamp design contest, represents our hope that the sound sense of family values, in accordance with the changed society will be established in this "International Year of the Family". |
