| Description | ||||
| Effective Octover 1, 1994, the Ministry of Communications implemented a new sorting system by which all mail was being classified according to the speed of delivery, thereby allowing senders to decide the length of time for mail to arrive at its intended destination. The new system is a departure from its former system by which all mail was calssified according to content and shape.
In according with the new sorting system, all mail is being classified as priority mail and non-priority mail on the basis of the speed of delivery. Priority mail will arrive at its destination the very next day, and non-priority mail will arrive at its destination within four days since it was postmarked. The daily deadline for post marking will be determined in consideration of the means of trasportation and the required time for delivery to the target region. The Ministry discontinued its express mail and domestic airmail services is similar to that of priority mail service. It has instead made domestic speed mail be delivered faster than priority mail, with this service territory covering only 31 major cities nationwide. To satisfy rising demand for faster delivery of mail in this rapidly changing postal market, the Ministry of Communications has issued new postage stamps for priority mail service, a 540 won definitive postage stamp for the minimum weight 50g of non-standrdized mail, featuring a "train" and a 300won definitive postage stamp for 5g private postcard, featuring a "small mail van". |
