| Description | ||||
| The Ministry of Communications has designated and operated Philatelic Week annually since 1973 so as to broaden a base for the philatelic population and cultivate a sound culture.This year, the period between November 19 and November 25 was designatid as Philatelic Week, with its major event, "National Postage Stamp Exhibition" to be held at Seoul Sejong Cultural Center during this period.
"National Postage Stamp Exhibition" has been annually held since 1954, and served as the cornerstone to cultivate culture for philately. This was evidenced in particular during the PHILAKOREA 1994 World Stamp Exnibition, held from August 16 through August 25, 1994, at which Korean philatelic works were highlighted as top prize awardments. On the other hand, during the philatelic week of this year, many events will be unfolded, like a philatelists' convention, philatelic seminars for teenagers, within the "National Postal Stamp Exhibition". On the occasion of Philatelic Week, the Ministry of Communications has issued this special postage stamp featuring "Watermelon and Field mouse", a picture appearing on a first peice of Lady Shin Saimdang's "Chojung-do-Palgokpyung" (painting of grass and inset on an eight-fold screen). The Ministry hopes that this year's Philatelic Week, held after the successful completion of the PHILAKOREA 1994 World Stamp Exhibition, will serve as momentum to further boost the level of our philatelic culture. |
