| Description | ||||
| April 25, 1995, marks the centnnial of modern law education in Korea, which began with the establishment of the modern judicial system.
As regards law education in Korea, it is recorded that during the Koryo Dynasty, law was taught by the "Kukchagak National University", and during the Choson Dynasty, law was educated by the "Hyungjo" (then MInistry of Justice). On April 25, 1895 (April on lunar calendar), the "Judges' Training School Regulations" were promulgated as Royal Edict No. 49 by King Kojong. A judge training school was then opened as an instisution to offer comprehensive law education. At that time, the area of law education was divided into civil law, commercial law, criminal law, the code of legal procedure and so on. The objective of modern law education in Korea is not only to produce judicial officers who achieve social justice under the law, but more fundamentally, to lay a firm foundation on which democracy can thrive. To commemorate the centennial of Korea's modern law education, with the basis of protection of the people rights and the development of democracy, the Ministry of Information and Communication is issuing a stamp featuriong "Korea's mythical unicorn-lain and the compendium of law" to remind the public of the role and significance of law education. |
