Philately Week-1999 shall be commemorated between the 13th and the 18th of August, The centerpiece of all philately events that week, The 1999 Korea Philately Exhibition, will be held in Samsung-dong, Kangnam-ku, in Seoul at the Pacific Hall 4 on the first floor of the COEX. Around 500 exhibition frames including the grand prize winning collection will be on display. There will also be a full range of historical Korea stamps ranging from the first Munwi stamps to the latest issues, and visitors will be able to see the original large works that the designers create before they are made into stamps.

Another part of the exhibit, will show the entire stamps production process. Most notably, almost 400 North Korea stamps will be exhibited for the first time in Korea, offering a great opportunity to look at the plant and animal life indigenous to North Korea, and helping all visitors to better understand Korea's traditional culture.

Philately Week-1999, will also feature daily philately lectures and autograph sessions by the stamp designers. What is more, visitors will be able to access the Internet at the exhibition to obtain philatelic and other information.

The special commemorative stamp issued for "Philately Week-1999" will feature the painting "Kumgang Mountain", by Chong Son (1676-1759), also popularly known as Kyomjae. He established the "True-view Landscape" (Chingyongsansu) painting style, realistically depicting Korea's unique mountainous terrain and setting himself apart from the traditional painters who depicted conceptualized landscapes. This stamp will show all the world the beautiful ambience of Kumgang Mountain.
