February 2002

The transfer of the Korea Stamp Society Library to the offices of the Western Philatelic Library (WPL) is a step closer to reality. In January the former KSS Librarian Stanley Kim, took nine boxes of KSS Library books and periodicals from his home to the WPL in nearby Sunnyvale, California.

These library items will soon be integrated with the WPL and will be available to all KSS members, as well as WPL members and visitors to the WPL. The KSS Library is quite extensive and should not be overlooked as an excellent resource for philatelic information on Korea. Selections in the KSS Library include a run of Woo-Pyo (Korean Stamps) from January 1972 to March 1995; Korean Stamp Review from the 1st issue of 1976 to the 1st issue of 1999; and many books in the Korean, Japanese, and English languages on the subject of Korean philately. It is expected that the merger of the Korea Stamp Society Library with the WPL will result in the premier resource center for Korea philately.

The WPL is located near San Francisco and San Jose, California, in the city of Sunnyvale. The WPL is housed at 1500 Partridge Avenue, Sunnyvale, California, in Room 6, Building 6. The mailing address is:
Western Philatelic Library, Post Office Box 2219, Sunnyvale, CA, 84087-2219. The telephone number is: (408) 733-0336.

The WPL is open several days a week: Tuesday from noon to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 9:00 am, to noon and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Library is also open on Saturday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and on other days/times by appointment.

The KSS Library continues to accept donations of books and periodicals from its members. Please contact Bill Collyer, KSS Librarian at: [williamcollyer@aol.com] or by writing to Post Office Box 4158, Saticoy, CA 93007-0148 should you have items you want to donate to the KSS Library.

The KSS Library expects to publish a list of its entire holdings by the end of this year. Now is the time to donate any items to the Library. Any item, philatelic or non-philatelic, related to Korea is needed.
